For Malden families

A Christian school near Malden, in Medford.

New England Christian Academy has taught one child at a time at 30 Salem Street since 1976. K-4 through grade 12, 40 students, 6 staff, $375 a month all in.

Getting here from Malden

Malden Center to 30 Salem Street is a short hop west along Salem Street and Route 60 — a few miles of city streets, and a normal school-morning drive is well under fifteen minutes. Families coming from Maplewood and Edgeworth are closer still; Edgeworth effectively borders our block.

The 101 bus runs the length of Salem Street between Malden Center and Sullivan Square and stops within a block or two of the school, and Malden Center is on the Orange Line. Leaving Malden Center around 7:30 puts you at the door before 8:00 on a normal morning; the 105 and 106 are useful backups from the Maplewood side. Several Malden families still drive because dismissal is 2:30 and there is no after-school care.

Times above are our own estimate from published MBTA schedules and normal Medford traffic, not a school guarantee. Call the office and we will walk you through the morning routine and whether a Malden carpool has room.

Why Malden families come to NECA

  • Malden families priced out of $13,000-a-year Christian schools find $375 a month all in, $340 at the church member rate.
  • Malden's schools are large. A child who is quietly behind, quietly ahead, or newly arrived from another country gets placed by diagnostic test here, subject by subject.
  • We already serve students learning English. Individualized placement means a non-linear school history is a starting point, not a problem.

How the school works

Your child is tested in each subject and placed where they actually are — not where their birthday says they should be. They set their own daily goals, work at their own desk, and can't move forward until they've mastered the material at 80% or better. A student who is ahead in math isn't held back. A student who needs another two weeks on fractions gets another two weeks. Nobody gets left behind and nobody gets bored.
